A sample story from Nacho’s journal.

First, stand next to the treat drawer. You need to be close enough that your human understands the assignment.

Then look at him like you have not eaten since last Tuesday. You ate seven minutes ago. That is between you and the bowl.

Start with the tiny whine.

One little sound. Barely audible. A very small complaint from a very large, tragically under-snacked dog.

If your human says, “What?” you are making progress. Tilt your head. Look at the drawer. Look at the human. Repeat until someone remembers whose website this is.

The face does half the work.

My face says I am a gentle soul who has never received a snack in his life. My human says the treat bag was full yesterday. We have different perspectives.

Know when to take a victory nap.

Once the treat arrives, accept it with dignity. By dignity, I mean immediately. Then find a comfortable place to think about the next treat.
